It's a fact that colleges offer scholarship programs and grants for students who have exceptional talent or active participation in any extra curricular activity. Colleges offer numerous scholarships for activities like sports, intense interest in a particular field of study like science, math, history etc, and cheerleading scholarship but apart from this there are also scholarships for Marching Bands. However these scholarships are awarded for students who participate in competitions to be able to get these grants. Here is a list of grants given for students who wish to join colleges and require assistance:
• The Glenn Miller Scholarship: This is scholarship is awarded for high school graduates who wish to have a future in music. The Scholarship program is 3 steps and requires the candidate to apply with a tape of his/her work and twenty candidates are selected to perform in front of the judges who choose six finalists for the Glenn Miller Scholarship. This grant is worth $4500.
• Marine Band Concerto competition: is a $2500 grant from the Marine corps and the US government for which students who were part of a marching band send in renditions and interpretations of a track via tape and the best few are selected and the prize is given to the best rendition. The winner also gets an opportunity to play with the Marine Corps band.
• The school band and orchestra magazine scholarship: This is a competition that expects the candidates to write an article stressing the importance of music and arts in regular curriculum and submit it to the web site within a year. The award of $1000 scholarship for 10 students is given to 10 students from the 4th grade to the 12th grade. These winners' articles are published in the magazine and the scholarship helps students who want to pursue a career in music.
New scholarships for marching band students are coming up all the time. The best way to search for these scholarships is by contacting your counselor. Your counselor will contact schools that you're interested in and find out if their music program offers any scholarships.
